Playoff Tourney....trying it again.

The Capital City Fastball League will try this upcoming weekend to wrap up the 2010 season with a double knockout style tournament. The tourney was unable to go last weekend due to the lack of umpires.  Dodgers games will be Thursday the 26th at 7:30pm at Colchester, then 12:00pm Saturday the 26th.  The outcome of those 2 games will determine when or if the Dodgers will play again on Saturday, and Sunday, but in all likely hood the Dodgers will playing again Saturday, and later into the day at the 5pm final, because they are pretty sweet.

Last Regular Season Game of 2010

Short Fences, elevated mound, yep Castledown's little league diamond will the field of play for the Dodgers last regular season game of the 2010 season vs the Tomahawks at 7pm..............bring your bug spray!

Recap:
To insure the game would even be played, due to the Tomahawks being short, the Dodgers traded away by far thier best looking player for absolutely nothing in return, and it looked like it would hurt them as the fleet footed second basemen turned an unassisted double play to remove the first two Dodger batters of the first inning.................the Dodgers then rallied with 2 outs and scored 6 runs. The bats didn't stop there as they continued to pound the ball off the awestrucked Tomahawk pitcher, after 4 innings of play the Dodgers lead 15-0, and the game was called due to lightning. Dingers were hit by Jess, Matte, Reinhart, Atkinson, and probaly a few others as it was hard to keep track. Then the clouds let loose with a downpour of rain and hail, and cut short the post game celbrations.

League Playoffs will be a tournemant held some weekend in August, who knows where or when , but they won't be in Lloyd as that is out of the city......maybe Gibbons.

August 3rd, August 4th League Games

A busy week for the Dodgers saw them playing a doubleheader on August 3rd against Blue Devils, then a game fighting the sunlight against the up and coming Roughnecks. Dodgers won both games, not quite sure what the scores were, and frankly who cares, the dodgers won them both. Atkinson pitched all but the last inning of the second game, when Big Red Taylor came in for some zip zip, that made the Roughnecks decide they didn't even want to take the field the last inning. On a side note, a $5 wager was made between King&Atkinson, that King would hit a home run his first at bat, after not doing so he went double or nothing, until he was $20 in the hole, the wager was cleared up when King hit a dinger his last bat of the game........just another Castledowns fly ball home run.

August 4th the Dodgers played the new look Edmonton Reds. With the Shane Mckort pitching for the Reds, and the crafty Atkinson pitching for the Dodgers the stage was set for a good game between the two long time rivals . Mckort's stuff was really moving early on and he was able to hold the Dodgers off for a few innings, then the bats woke up, and the Dodgers were able to score 10 runs from the 3rd inning to the 5th. Atkinson held the Reds off the entire game, and it was all up to the new pitching sensation Mat King to hold the Reds off in the bottom of the 5th, to ensure the mercy rule would be applied. King went 3 up 3 down, and then stayed until all the beer was drank out of the cooler, making his trip to Wetaskwin a memorable one.

Thursday July 29, 2010 Doubleheader

Diamond: Castle Downs #2V 116 St. & 157 Ave H2,
6:30pm
2, 5 innning games against the Twighlighters.

Post games beers will be drank at the north side OJ's.

Post availability in comments.

Recap: 11-11, One game was played for the points for the 2 make up league games.

Mat King got what he has wanted all year. To get the start on the mound in the prestigious CCFL game. After some getting used to some suspect field conditions, and finding the strike zone, he didn't disappoint. Pitching 5 outstanding innings, his refusal to come off the mound may have been his only downfall. As with bases loaded a grand slam saw the pitchers 11-3 lead squander away. And in the last inning with only one out needed for his first career in in the CCFL, he gave up another home run that tied up the the game at 11. Dodgers offense didn't disappoint, as monstrous home runs were hit out by King, Taylor, Atkinson, Anderson, and Atkinson again.

Tuesday July 27 Doubleheader

Allright time to start using this blog for something.

Tuesday July 27, 2010 7:00
Double header at Colchester diamond #1
VS
Twighlighters
then
Reds

Post your availability in the comments if you can or can't make it. Then we will all have a commone place to look to see if we have enough guys from now on, and we won't have to go through all the emails. I'll post something like this for the remaining league games this year.

Guess it was only a single against the Reds. Dodgers won by a score of 9-3, riding the arm of Big Red for seven innings, and offensive bombs delivered by Jester, and making his debut at 2nd base Don "Deisel" Atkinson.
